Mathematics and technology shape nearly every aspect of modern life—from artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to economics and scientific research. Yet many students with strong analytical ability never receive the support they need to pursue these paths fully.
The Dan Herbatschek Scholarship was designed with this reality in mind.
Rather than rewarding only polished résumés, the scholarship emphasizes intellectual depth, problem-solving ability, and curiosity. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how they think, not just what credentials they hold. This approach reflects Dan Herbatschek’s own journey—one defined by exploration, interdisciplinary learning, and applying theory to practical systems.
Students pursuing mathematics, computer science, engineering, data science, philosophy of science, or related disciplines are especially encouraged to apply. However, the defining factor is mindset: a willingness to ask difficult questions and engage deeply with complex ideas.
In supporting these students, the scholarship aims to cultivate future innovators who will push boundaries rather than follow templates.
